Lecture: A holistic approach to common hormonal imbalances in women

The talk concerns common complaints in women’s health relating to hormones with a focus on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and perimenopause.  Hypothyroidism, endometriosis, and menopause will also be discussed.  The presentation reviews the role and normal function of female sex hormones, what a normal menstrual cycle looks like, hormonal changes that occur in PCOS and perimenopause, and how hormonal imbalances are treated using functional medicine to meet an individual person’s needs.

Aimee Bearden is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with a background in primary care.  Her health care career also includes working in a rehab facility, community case management, mental health, and in hospice.  She is passionate about helping people optimize their health and is experienced in treating common primary care complaints that are often associated with hormone imbalances including anxiety, depression, thyroid disorder, polycystic ovarian syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, perimenopause, and menopause.  She integrates functional medicine into her practice with a goal of addressing root causes instead of applying band-aid solutions.
